Day 14 of the 30 Day Challenge: Flowers

Floral is probably my favourite pattern to wear EVER. Most of the tops I own have some sort of floral-ness to them.

There were too many different kinds of floral to think about for today’s challenge so I decided to opt for something I have seen quite a few times before and I’m really pleased with how they turned out!

Flowers – in the sun

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream to give a nice summery background to my nail design. I then mixed Barry M Matt White and No7 Pillar Box to create a nice light pink and used a dotting tool to make the centre of the flowers on the nails.

I then used No7 Pillar Box with a small paintbrush to make the petal marks. Finally I used alternating strokes of Barry M Mint Green and Barry M Racing Green to make the flowers.

I really like them! What do you think?

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • Barry M – Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Barry M – Matt White
  • No7 Stay Perfect – Pillar Box Red
  • Barry M – Mint Green
  • Barry M – Racing Green
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Day 13 of the 30 Day Challenge: Animal print nails

This theme was always going to be a issue due to the number of different animal print stamping patterns I have. I’ve already done tiger print so I wasn’t going to do that, but I still had quite a few to choose from. In the end, I chose leopard print and Im so glad I did!

Animal print nails – in the shade with flash

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Foil Effects Gold and then used Konad Special Polish in Black and Bundle Monster stamping plate 221 to stamp the leopard print pattern over the top.

I took my photos and I really liked it, but then I had an idea…I decided to use LA Colours Bronze Bombshell to colour in the spots. To be honest I can’t really decide which style I like better so I thought I would share both sets of photos with you. Which do you prefer?

Don’t forget to enter the GIVEAWAY I have running at the moment to win a bottle of Barry M Foil Effects Silver!

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • Barry M – Foil Effects Gold
  • Konad Special Polish – Black
  • LA Color – Bronze Bombshell
  • Bundle Monster Plate 221
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Day 12 of the 30 Day Challenge: Stripes

Sorry for the late post today folks! I’ve had the day off today and have spent it looking into a new nail-related web project. More info coming on that in the next few weeks!

Today’s theme is ‘stripes’ and I didn’t really want to do your average striped nails, so I went for something a bit different! I realised that my nail polishes and nail art design generally aren’t very work-friendly. I’m very lucky in the face that I can wear whatever nail polish I like to work but I know that some of you can’t. So here’s a simple elegant nail art design that could be worn around the office :)

My untried for the day today is No7′s Totally Teal. I tend to find Teal a bit of an awkward colour as I don’t really own anything that is teal coloured, so that’s probably why I have never used it before. It was really lovely to use though and I’ll have to use it again as the colour suited me quite nicely.

I used my new LA Colors Art Deco in Black which is a tall thin bottle with very thin long brush in it that is perfect for making these thin stripes across the nail.

Overall I’m really pleased with this manicure, but the colours do leave me wanting to re-do this in a lime green and purple or something!

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • No7 Stay Perfect – Totally Teal
  • LA Colors Art Deco – Black
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Day 11 of the 30 Day Challenge: Polka dot nails

Firstly, let me apologise to anyone who tried to access the blog last night. This blog is hosted with GoDaddy and they were having some issues with a couple of hackers last night so I know it was down for at least six hours (I got bored and went to bed). But the good news is that everything seems to be fine and all back up and running this morning.

Now, onto today’s nails. Today’s theme is ‘polka dot nails’ and which is TOTALLY AWESOME. I really love polka dots. I’m not even sure I can count how many dresses I have that are covered in polka dots (the other are covered in floral print – I am a pattern FREAK).

I immediately knew that I wanted to do something plain and simple but still quite bright and shocking so I decided on a normal polka dot pattern with some snazzy colours.

Polka dot nails – in the shade with flash

I started by painting my nails with Topshop’s Easy Breezy which is one of my favourite polishes at the moment and I’m quite sad that we’re not in summer anymore as it is such a summery colour :(

I then used a large-ish dotting tool with Barry M Bright Pink to create the polka dot effect. Awesomeness or what?! I am really really looking forward to seeing everyone else’s polka dot manicures today :)

Don forget to enter the GIVEAWAY I have running at the moment to win a bottle of Barry M Foil Effects Silver!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Topshop – Easy Breezy
  • Barry M – Bright Pink
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Day 10 of the 30 Day Challenge: Gradient nails

Today’s theme is ‘gradient nails’ and I have actually been really excited about this one! I’ve seen several other gradient manicures before, but particularly like the one that the Nailasaurus did here.

So I went out a bought a cheap bathroom sponge, snipped a bit off and set to work. This was the result…

Gradient nails – in the shade with flash

I think it could have gone better. I mean, I like it, but I could have done a bit more blue I think.

I started by painting my nails with a base of Barry M Foil Effects Silver and waited for it to dry. I then got an old plastic wallet (you know, the ones you use in folders to keep your coursework neat) and painted two squares of polish next to each other, one Barry M Foil Effects Silver and one Maybelline Forever Strong Pro in Midnight Blue. I used a toothpick to mix together the two polishes where they met to try and create the gradient effect and then pressed the sponge onto the polish before dabbing it on my nail.

I think the polish was a bit sparse for my liking, so I think next time I would use a makeup sponge instead of a normal bathroom sponge. Hey ho, you live and learn. This is definitely a manicure I will try again soon though.

Don’t forget to enter my GIVEAWAY to win a bottle of Barry M Foil Effects Silver!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barry M – Foil Effects Silver
  • Maybelline Forever Strong Pro – Midnight Blue
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Day 9 of the 30 Day Challenge: Rainbow nails

I have to be honest, I did paint this manicure at the beginning of last week. But I have bee absolutely DYING to post it as it is definitely my favourite manicure so far.

I’ve always had a bit of an affiliation with rainbows of colour, so today’s theme is right up my street. I thought it would be a great excuse to get out my dotting tool for a play.

Rainbow nails – indoor with flash

I started by painting my nails with Barry M’s Matt White and then used my dotting tool to paint dots onto my nails in stripes of colour using Bourjois Rouge Escarpin, Barry M Block Orange, Barry M Yellow, Barry M Spring Green, Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream, Models Own Lilac Dream and Barry M Bright Pink. It sounds time consuming but it was actually wasn’t that bad.

This manicure lasted a record TWO DAYS as I loved it that much. What do you think?

Don’t forget to enter the GIVEAWAY I posted yesterday to win a bottle of Barry M Foil Effects Silver!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Bourjois – So Laque! – Rouge escarpin 24
  • Barry M – Block Orange
  • Barry M – Yellow
  • Barry M – Spring Green
  • Barry M – Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Models Own – Lilac Dream
  • Barry M – Bright Pink
  • Barry M – Matt White

Day 7 of the 30 Day Challenge: Black and white nails

I’m back again with today’s installment of the 30 Day Challenge and today’s theme is ‘black and white nails’.

These two plain colours (or absences of colour) tend to be a popular nail polish combination for me. I love the classy smart effect you can get with them and often trade the white in for a silver.

Today however, I decided to go with something a bit more fun!

Black and white nails – in the shade

Piano nails! How cute are these? I think this was probably the easiest stamping experience I’ve had so far (not that it’s hard!) and was a real joy to do.

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Matt White and after it had dried, I used Bundle Monster Plate 207 and Konad Special Polish in Black to stamp the piano pattern over it.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the others doing this challenge can offer today as I might have to pinch some black and white ideas!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barry M – Matt White
  • Konad Special Polish – Black
  • Bundle Monster Plate 207
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Day 6 of the 30 Day Challenge: Violet nails

My first question when I saw this theme was ‘What colour is violet?’. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not a complete idiot. I knew it was something to do with purple. It’s just that the difference between violet and indigo has always been a bit vague to me.

So to Google Images I went. This, however, wasn’t very useful. According to that, violet is every shade of purple under the sun. Faffing over shades was turning out to be too much effort so I just found a purple in my stash that I hadn’t tried yet.

Violet nails – indoor with flash

Barbara Daly’s Purple Velvet is a really really dark purple that tricks the eye into thinking it’s black when in low light. In bright lights however, this colour has a really vivid purple shimmer to it.

I then used two different butterfly stamping images with Barry M Foil Effects Silver to finish the nails off.

They really remind me of the original butterfly nails I did, but I think I prefer these ones :)

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barbara Daly – Purple Velvet
  • Barry M – Foil Effects Silver
  • Cheeky Mega Image Plate B
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Day 5 of the 30 Day Challenge: Blue nails

Today is the 5th day of the 30 Day Challenge, and I am really enjoying it! Still have a long way to go though, so my attitude will probably change, but for now, all is rosy :)

The theme was today is ‘blue nails’ which is theme I have been really looking forward to. When I got my new Cheeky mega stamping plate B last week there was one particular stamping image that stood out to me as a fun one to use. So I give you….clouds!

Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream – indoor with flash

How cute are these?! The little clouds are actually one big stamping pattern to stamp across the whole nail.

I started by painting my nails with a base of Barry M’s Blueberry Ice Cream which is my untried polish for the day. I then used Konad Special Polish in White to stamp the cloud pattern on. This bit was really quite fiddly as it was difficult to get the full pattern on the stamper without any smudging, but I managed it in the end. I put a top coat on, and sat back admiring the design when my boyfriend said that it would be cool if I could paint little silver linings on some of the clouds! I thought this was a great idea, but as the phrase is “EVERY cloud has a silver lining” I thought that would be a bit of a challenge. I decided in the end to just paint a few clouds in with Barry M’s Foil Effect Silver polish with a tiny paintbrush to give the effect of the occasional raincloud. Plus, it gives a really pretty shimmer to the nails!

I think this challenge manicure is probably my favourite one so far :)

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barry M – Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Konad Special Polish – White
  • Barry M – Foil Effects Silver
  • Cheeky Mega Image Plate B
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Day 3 of the 30 Day Challenge: Yellow nails

Morning all! Today is Day 3 of the 30 Day Challenge I’m doing and the theme is ‘Yellow nails’.

My first instinct was to think of something yellow, but as I have done something similar to that for the past few days I thought I would try something different. So I give you – yellow nails with black bows! I really need to start being more creative with names for my manicures…

Yellow nails – indoor with flash

I really am not a fan of yellow nail polish in general as it does not suit my skin tone in the slightest as i am so pale. I can get away with pale yellows (sort of) so Barry M’s Lemon Ice Cream would have been perfect, but I’ve already used that so I reached for the only other yellow I have… Barry M Yellow. As you can see, they were about as adventurous with names for this one as I am generally am.

Barry M Yellow is a really vivid yellow creme polish that actually covers to opaque in only two coats which really surprised me, and the application was just as delightful as Barry M polishes always are. The colour however really is not my cup of tea.

For the nail art deco, I decided to use Konad Special Polish Black to stamp little bows from one of my cheeky plates. This was relatively easy, although I think I lost marks on aligning them properly.

It didn’t really seem finished when I had done the stamping, so I stuck little black rhinestones onto the centres of the bows, which made a nice difference.

Overall, these nails are yellow. Really not sure I can give any further positive assessment. The colour really doesn’t suit me and I was quite quick to take this manicure off!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barry M – Yellow
  • Konad Special Polish – Black
  • Cheeky Mega Image Plate A
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri
