Remembrance Day Poppies

Today is Remembrance Day, when on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour we spend some time in silence as a nation to remember those who fought for us in the wars. It’s a day where everyone wears poppies as a mark of respect, so I thought I would paint my nails with poppies in tribute this year.

Remembrance Day Poppies

I started by painting my nails with two coats of Barry M Matt White. I then used Barry M Blood Orange with a tiny paintbrush to paint the petals of the poppies. Next, I used a dotting tool with Nails Inc Black Taxi to create the dots in the centre of the poppies. Finally, I used Sinful Colors Exotic Green to paint the little leaves.

I hope you like them!

Tutorial: How to Paint Flamingo Nails

So I’ve had a request to do a tutorial of how to paint my flamingo nails, and as it is really very easy, I thought I would oblige!

You will need a light blue polish, a bright pink polish, a light pink polish, a small paintbrush and a dotting tool or toothpick. And don’t forget your base coat and topcoat!

Mr Tickle

Don’t even ask me where this idea came from. I literally have no clue, other that my weird mind managed to conjure it up whilst at work the other afternoon.

But wouldn’t you agree, this might be the best manicure I have ever done! I am so unbelievably proud of it!

If you don’t know who Mr Tickle is, he is a character from a series of children’s books called Mr Men and Little Miss :)

It’s Guy Fawkes Night! At least, it will be tonight… For those of you around the world that have no idea what I’m talking about, once a year on 5th November the UK remembers an event in history where a man called Guy Fawkes tried to commit treason and blow up the houses of parliament! Nowadays, we celebrate with fireworks and usually light a bonfire with a man on top, supposedly him!

We have a little rhyme we always say too….

Remember remember the 5th of November,
gun powder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot!

So today I have a fireworks manicure for you to celebrate this fun and freezing night of the year!

So I actually did this manicure months ago! I finally got around to editing the pictures this week, and still like it enough to share it with you :)

This is supposed to be a monarch butterfly style manicure! Isn’t it pretty?

101 Dalmatians

I seem to have caught the Disney nail art bug!

This is a design I saw pop up on a random Google search and just know I had to have a go at it! You can see the original version by Lisa Nails HERE.

I haven’t seen 101 Dalmations for years, but painting this manicure has immediately sparked my desire to watch it again. Only £8.99 on Amazon, so I don’t mind if I do!

Toy Story Aliens

I have been waiting to do these nails for absolutely ages! I just needed them to be long enough, and we’re finally there!

I got the idea from the amazing CutePolish’s video HERE and thought I would recreate it in my own way.

Toy Story Alien Nails

I started by painting my nails with a base of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Brisk Blue. then I used a small paintbrush with Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lickety-Split Lime to paint the alien’s head and two little pointy ears. I used the same polish to draw the antenna and a dotting tool for the top of the antenna. After the green had dried, I used a big dotting tool with Barry M Matt White to create the white of the eyes. Finally, I used Nails Inc Black Taxi with a tiny dotting tool for the pupils.

How cute are these! I thinking I might do a whole Toy Story series. It’s such a great series of films!

Jewels in the Sea

Something a little more abstract from me today! I realised that I haven’t done any stamping for ages  and couldn’t resist pulling the glitter out too, so here is something a little less inspired and a little more puzzle-like. I actually had quite a lot of fun doing this one!

Jewels in the sea nails

I started by painting my nails with two coats of Sally Hansen’s Lustre Shine in Azure, and after that had completely dried, I used a Cheeky stamping plate with Barry M Foil Effects Silver to stamp on the wavey pattern. I then used a toothpick dipped in clear nail polish to place on the little bits of silver glitter to give it that last touch of glam!

I love how this mix of colours works so well. The Sally Hansen Azure changes from blue to purple as you move your hand, which compliments the twinkle of the glitter and the silver wave!

Dandelions in the wind

I must confess, this is a bit of a copy as I saw this style of manicure somewhere on twitter last week, but I can’t remember whose it was! So if you did a dandelion manicure recently, then thanks for the inspiration for today’s post!

I decided to go for quite a cartoony look today as dandelions are so detailed that I’m not sure my tiniest brush is small enough! I still quite like the effect though, but I think I could have done fewer pieces on my ring finger. But hey ho, never mind :)

Dandelion Nails

I started by painting my nails with two coats of Topshop’s Easy Breezy. I realise that I use this polish a LOT for nail art, but I shan’t apologise because I love it so much :P Next I used a small paintbrush with Essence Deep Sea Baby to paint the little stalks. After that had dried I used Barry M Matte White (my faaaaavourite white) to paint on the little fly away bits – whatever you call them.

It was so easy and simple to do that literally anyone could do it. I dare you to give it a go, and don’t forget to send me a pic so I can see what a great job you’ve done!

This week in the She Who Does Nail Art Challenges group on Facebook (come join us!), the theme is Birds.

While trying to decide what to decorate my nails with for this theme, I scoured my stamping plates and thought about hand painting like birds in a cage, but when I started thinking about the more obscure birds and finally it was down to either flamingos or penguins!

Flamingos it was!

Flamingo Nails

I’ve seen these style of flamingo nails on a few blogs before, but I just couldn’t help recreating them myself!

I started by painting my nails with three coats of Sinful Colors Cinderella (a review to follow later in the week) which is a gorgeous pale blue with a pink shimmer to it. I then used a small paintbrush to paint on the head, neck and body of the flamingos using Barry M Bright Pink. Next I used the same small paintbrush and Angelica Marshmallow to paint the wing of the flamingos. I used a tiny paintbrush and Barry M Matt White to paint the white bit of the beak and then the same white polish with a medium sized dotting tool to create the whites of the eyes. Finally I used Nails Inc Black Taxi with a small dotting tool to finish the eyes, and the same black polish with a tiny paintbrush to paint the beak.

What do you think? I love these guys!

I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with for birds this week!
