Review: Barry M Amethyst Glitter

Today I have for you own of Barry M’s new glitter polishes called Amethyst Glitter.

I am entirely to blame for the fact that you’ve probably seen this polish on other blogs before now, as every visit into Boots or Superdrug has comprised of me standing in front of the Barry M display staring at it. The choice of glitters was obviously too much. Anyway, this is what I picked after too much to-ing and fro-ing ( <-- weird expression to read).

I was a bit concerned about the density of the glitter in the polish, and I’m not really a fan of having to wear my nail polish too thick so I decided to layer it over Barry M Blackberry from the new Hi-Shine Jelly collection. That polish deserves a post of its own so keep your eye out!

I ended up using one coat of Barry M Blackberry and two coats of Barry M Amethyst Glitter to achieve this look, and it lasted it a whole three days without chipping at all before I got bored. I really is such a wonderful colour combination that catches your eye in literally any light. It’s not too over the top either though so you don’t feel stupid wearing it through the day.

Have you tried any of the Barry M glitters yet?

For this manicure I used:
  • OPI – Nail Envy
  • Barry M – Blackberry
  • Barry M – Amethyst Glitter
  • Seche Vite – Quick Dry Topcoat

Review: Look Nail Pop Plum

I really need to start posting more often. Wedding planning is taking over my life! Anyway, sorry for the delay but I should have quite a few posts for you over the next few days.

I will start by saying that I have decided that this is my new favourite nail polish. It’s official. This might have something to do with how good it looks with my engagement ring (check out the picture, I couldn’t resist!).

I wore this nail polish for pretty much the whole week after I got engaged so that really says everything. The colour is so glossy and amazing, and the consistency is a dream.

I got so many comments from people on what a lovely colour is was, and one of my friends actually went out and bought it on my recommendation which was cool.

You get lots of photos of this beauty because I love it and because I wanted to spend some time playing with my awesome new light tent! It’s just so much more convenient now the nights are drawing in and I can still take pictures late at night! Woop woop!

For this manicure I used:
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Base Coat
  • Look Nail Pop – Plum
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Models Own Wonderland Collection Swatches: Part 1

So if you’re a follower of Models Own on Facebook (and you should be) you might have seen the announcement they made yesterday about their new Wonderland polishes! Well today I managed to pop into Boots and as disappointed as I was to find out that they didn’t have the whole collection in stock, I still managed to pick up three of them and thought I woul swatch them for you :)

Northern Lights is described as “a fine holographic multi-tonal glitter in a pink finish” and that is certainly a good description, although I really don’t think that the picture that Models Own has released is very accurate to true life. It took three coats to get full coverage of the glitter and it has a really lovely pick tinge to it that it just so beautiful which the bling of the holographic glitter.

Southern Lights is described as “an opaque holographic multi-tonal glitter in a lilac finish” and is a really gorgeous polish. It’s almost a bluey-lilac in closer and has a subtle holographic-ness to it that isn’t as intense as in Northern Lights. Again, this took three coats to get full coverage but I think it would look pretty and snowy as one coat over white.

Finally we have Blizzard. Blizzard is described as “a dense mix of hand cut glitters to give a silver day-night sparkle” and I LOVE THIS POLISH. In the bottle, I wasn’t really very enamoured by it, but once I had layered it over a coat of black polish it looked like I was wearing diamonds on my nails! It’s quite amazing how this glitter sparkles different colours under different lights and it’s so chunky and lovely it is perfect!

I absolutely love everything about this collection. Give me some glitter and a bit of holographic sparkle and I’m sold. The most annoying thing at the moment though, is that I can’t get hold of the two other polishes in the collection (Jack Frost and Snowflake)! Hopefully I’ll be able to find them some time in the next week though.

You can find the Models Own Wonderland Collection in Boots stores and in the Models Own Bottleshop at Westfield shopping centre right now, or if you’re patient enough, they’ll be available on the Models Own website from the 12th October. They’re £5 each or you’ll be able to get them in a box set for £20! Plus, Boots currently have a 3 for 2 offer on if you get down there quick!

Day 17 of the 30 Day Challenge: Glitter

I cannot even tell you how excited I have been about doing this post. Glitter is one of my favourite things in the whole world to have on my nails so today was always going to be a lot of fun. The issue however would be which glitter to use..

Last Saturday my boyfriend and I went on a shopping trip to Westfields and I came back with the new Models Own Mirrorball polishes (among other things). There are five gorgeous glitters in this collection so it was quite hard to pick which one to choose. In the end I just shut my eyes and grabbed this one… Disco Inferno. LOVE the name. LOVE the polish.

I started by painting my nails with a base of Models Own Black Magic and then used the polish blobbing technique to get even coverage of the glitter over my nails. Models Own Mirrorball Disco Inferno has a clear base and is jam packed with gold, bronze and green glitter in all different shapes and sizes.

I love the cool random look it has with all the different coloured and different shaped glitter. It makes it look almost mosaicy. After trying this one out I really cannot wait to try out the rest of the collection. I’ll keep you posted :)

You can buy Models Own Mirrorball polishes from for £5 a bottle or the whole collection plus a 3 in 1 clear polish for just £20! Or if you can manage to be patient enough, they’ll be in Boots stores as of the 3rd October. YOU MUST GET THEM.

For this manicure I used:
  • PVA Glue Base Coat
  • Models Own – Black Magic
  • Models Own – Disco Inferno
  • Revlon – Quick Dry Top Coat

Day 8 of the 30 Day Challenge: Metallic nails & GIVEAWAY!

It’s Saturday! Hooray! Unfortunately however, I was wide awake at 6.30 this morning which I guess is what you get for waking up stupidly early every day for work.

Today the theme is ‘metallic nails’ so I thought today would be a great day for a new giveaway!

If you’ve been following my blog over the last few weeks, you will have seen that I’m quite keen of Barry M’s Foil Effect Silver, especially for stamping designs onto my nails! Well, as I haven’t used this polish as just a plain coat before, I decided that is what I would do for today’s nail post :)

Barry M Foil Effects Silver – indoor with flash

Barry M’s Foil Effects Silver is probably the closest colour I’ve seen to an actual piece of kitchen foil. It’s a lovely consistency and you only need one coat which is an absolute winner for me! My only complaint would be you can sometimes see the nail brush streaks on your nails, so I found myself going over the polish I had already painted if I had done a bit of a wiggly line.

As this is one of my favourite polishes at the moment I bought a second one to share with one of you, my lovely readers! The giveaway with be open for a week starting today and you can enter using the form below. You must like my page on Facebook (the form below gives you a little link) and there are several other ways to gain more entries into the pot. The more entries you have, the more likely you are to win :) You can come back every day and claim more entries for tweeting about the giveaway or sharing the giveaway on Facebook. Good luck!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barry M – Foil Effects Silver
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Day 4 of the 30 Day Challenge: Green nails

GREEN. If you don’t know already, green is my favourite colour in the whole wide world, so I was very pleased with the theme of ‘Green nails’!

Now I’m going to be honest with you, I did actually go out and buy this polish especially for this day…I know, I know, it’s supposed to be an ‘untrieds’ challenge, but I surprisingly don’t have many greens, and I’ve tried all the ones I have so I thought I would buy myself a new untried ;)

The new green I bought was Barry M’s Spring Green and I think it is actually now my favourite green I own. It is a really bright grass green creme polish that have a nice consistency and was opaque in only two coats.

Barry M Spring Green – indoor with flash

I was thinking about doing some floral stamping over this colour, but loved it too much and I didn’t want to cover it up. So I was going to just leave it as it was but I remembered my Nails Inc Piccadilly Arcade and thought that it would probably be a pretty good colour match. So I got it out, and I was right :)

I used Nails Inc Piccadilly Arcade as a topcoat on my ring finger to create an accent nail. Hope you like it :)

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barry M – Spring Green
  • Nails Inc – Piccadilly Arcade
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Review: Barbara Daly Wicked

Yesterday I missed my train home from work l. I had to wait ages for the next one so instead of sitting around on a platform, I decided to take a wander over to the nearest shopping centre and have a look around.

I popped into the Tesco Direct to get a new notebook and pen (living life on the edge) and thought I’d have a quick look at their beauty section.

Uh oh. They had two baskets full of reduced make up and there were girls scrambling through them trying to find some good bits. My instinct took over and before I knew it I was digging out cheap nail polish (and a few other bits) and shoving it in my basket.

I ended up leaving with eleven nail polishes, one eyeshadow and a Lipgloss (plus the notepad and pen) and only spent £25! The polishes I got ranged from £2.95 down to a measly 57p!

The colour I have to show you today is one of those new polishes.

Barbara Daly Wicked – indoor with flash

Barbara Daly is a brand that is exclusive to Tesco stores. This is the first time I have bought Barbara Daly polishes, and I found this one to be really lovely.

Wicked is a dark purpley redy browny colour with a subtle shimmer to it. In the shade or indoors this colour really seems to be a warm dark brown colour, but in bright lights or sunlight it shifts to a purple or red shimmer which is really unusual. I can’t say that I have seen anything like this before.

I don’t know if I was having an unusually good day or something, but the application last night was the nicest I have ever had it. The brushes glided (is that even a word) across my nail like a dream and at the end I didn’t need to do ANY cleaning up of the skin around my nails.

In the photos you can see only one coat, but I actually wish that I had done another coat as it’s not completely opaque in some areas… Nevermind.

I think ten of the eleven polishes I got were Barbara Daly’s so stay tuned for reviews of the rest of them!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Barbara Daly – Wicked
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Review: Topshop Easy Breezy

It was payday on Tuesday. This usually means good things for the polish collection and bad things for the purse, but actually I did behave myself this time. Sort of.

I told myself I was only allowed to buy one polish in the shops that I went in to, and ended up coming home with only five polishes when it really could have been about fifty. If I had the money, I think I would have brought home the whole of Superdrug.

When I got home there was absolutely no question as to which I was going to try first.

Topshop Easy Breezy – in the shade with flash

Topshop’s Easy Breezy is a cool mint green, almost verging on a bit of a really pale aqua. It’s a lovely creme shade with a wonderful consistency and was opaque with only one coat! I even got a compliment from a man stood behind me in a queue yesterday who said that it was a lovely colour that suited me!

This is my first Topshop polish and I must say, I am very impressed. The bottle is really cute and the brush wider than your average brush which is great for covering your nail quickly and easily. I think Topshop polishes could start becoming one of my favorite polish brands you know…

You can buy Easy Breezy at Topshop for only £5. Bargain!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Topshop Easy Breezy
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Review: Nails Inc Piccadilly Arcade

It’s finally here. My long awaited Piccadilly Arcade post. Several weeks ago I as visiting my family and my sister showed me a new polish she had gotten. THIS ONE. I wanted it. I NEEDED IT. Green is my absolute favourite colour, especially this ‘Wicked’ green (for anyone who has seen the musical). After much persuading a begging, my sister refused to give me this polish. Rightly so I guess, it is about £11 a bottle.

Fast forward a few days. My boyfriend and I had arranged to meet for dinner after work in Pizza Express, and while we were waiting for our meals he presented me with this! Words cannot describe how excited I was.

Nails Inc Piccadilly Arcade – indoor with flash

I’ve only just had the chance to try out this baby out and I must say it really was quite difficult to apply. I decided not to give it another colour as a base coat, but just to apply it on its own. If you didn’t have enough polish on your brush you ended up with a nail of clear polish with a few specks on green glitter, but if you really fill up the brush, then you get the glitter effect much quicker. I also found it quite tricky to get the right amount of glitter on the tips of my nails and around my cuticle.

The polish is actually really quick drying, but as it was quite rough to touch due to all the glitter, it needed a generous top coat. The colour though is really magnificent. The green is everything I had hoped it would be. The glitter was so bright and sparkly and it worked so well as a polish on its own, but I think it would work just as well as glittery topcoat.

You can buy this polish from Nails Inc for £11, but at the moment you can get it from FeelUnique for a discounted price of £9.90!

For this manicure I used:
  • Sally Hansen – Maximum Growth
  • Nails Inc Piccadilly Arcade
  • Sally Hansen – Insta-Dri

Review: Fashionista Mystical Dragon

CHECK THIS OUT. How awesome is this colour?!

Last week my boyfriend was once again dragged into Superdrug as I scoured the aisles looking for GOSH Holographic Hero. In our Superdrug there is a whole stand especially for nails with loads of different brands in it (as well as the separate brand sections) and while I was looking for my GOSH polish he pulled this beauty out saying that he loved the colour.

As I have less than a few pennies in my purse at the moment, I decided to remember what it was and come back for it. So we carried on around the shop, picking up a couple of nail essentials and then heading to the checkout. My boyfriend kindly offered to buy my things for me, and as he did he slipped this polish to the cashier without me noticing! Apparently he’d been hiding it in his hand the whole way around the shop! What a super wonderful boyfriend I have, feeding my obsession for me :)
