Golden Chevrons

I’m not going to lie, I’m really not that good at abstract nail art. I just don’t find it very inspiring and find it hard to come up with an idea I actually like. I guess it’s just not cute enough.

Having said that, I thought I should just try, just once. Here we have my glittery golden chevrons!

Fireworks

It’s Guy Fawkes Night! At least, it will be tonight… For those of you around the world that have no idea what I’m talking about, once a year on 5th November the UK remembers an event in history where a man called Guy Fawkes tried to commit treason and blow up the houses of parliament! Nowadays, we celebrate with fireworks and usually light a bonfire with a man on top, supposedly him!

We have a little rhyme we always say too….

Remember remember the 5th of November,
gun powder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder treason
should ever be forgot!

So today I have a fireworks manicure for you to celebrate this fun and freezing night of the year!

Wedding Nails Idea: Silver Lace

I’m doing a series at the moment on Bridal Nails (you can see the first post here) as I’m trying to find to find something to wear for my wedding day in a couple of months time.

I’m looking for something classy, but still fun and a bit different. Everyone knows I like being a bit different :)

Wedding Nails Idea: Silver Lace

For this design I used two coats of Models Own Buff Pink, and then after that had dried, I used Barry M Foil Effects Silver and one of the Cheeky Mega Stamping Plates (annoyingly unlabelled) to stamp over this cute little lace designs.

I actually really like this design a lot – so elegant and pretty – but I think it still lacks some sparkle. I think I need to combine it with some glitter or something.

What do you think of this design?

Holiday Challenge: Beach nails

I’m back again, starting a new challenge theme with the She Who Does Nail Art Challenges group! This week the theme is Holidays!

My first thought was to paint a gorgeous sandy beach shore, complete with starfish and crab! I am so chuffed with how this came out!!

Holiday Challenge: Beach nails

I started by painting my nails with a base of Models Own Bora Bora (didn’t I say that it looked like sand in my review!), and then painted on the waves area with LA Colors Sea Siren. I then gradually mixed Sea Siren with Barry M Matt White to make the edge of the sea lighter. Next I used Angelica Iced Sorbet and Barry M Block Orange to paint on the little starfish. Finally I used No7 Pillar Box to paint the crab, and Barry M Matt White and Nails Inc Black Taxi for the eyes.

I am completely in love with this nail art design. The sand is so sparkly and I just love how the sea edge turned out!

I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with this week!

Review: Models Own Bora Bora

Morning everyone! I hope you’re all having a good day :)

Today I have for you a nail polish that has literally only just been released. I took a trip up to Westfields London on Saturday, popped into the Models Own Bottleshop and was lucky enough to walk away with Models Own Bora Bora, which is a new addition to the Hed Kandi collection!

I’m a sucker for anything gold and glittery, so I couldn’t say no to this one!

Models Own Bora Bora

The polish is the most pretty thing to look at even when still in the bottle. The glitter particles are so tiny that it gives the polish such a rich shimmer that is beautiful. In these pictures you can see two coats of Bora Bora with a topcoat on top, but I really don’t think it needed the topcoat, it is so shiny!

The consistency of the polish is great – it’s very thin which is what you what from a glitter as it’s easier to build up layers without it getting too thick on the nail. I was pleasantly surprised though, at how densely packed with glitter this polish is. I expected to have to do a basecoat of another colour or do quite a few layers to get a solid glitter effect, but was amazed that I only had to do two!

I’m really enjoying wearing this polish today, on such a grey day. It’s such a sleek and sophisticated glitter that it reminds me of soft smooth sand on a tropical beach somewhere (maybe Bora Bora?! haha) and will be perfect for the summer time.

You can buy Models Own Bora Bora from the Models Own website or in Boots stores now :)

I have been shopping!

As it was my birthday last week and some very kind people gave me some money as gifts, I decided to drag Jack to Westfields London on Saturday. I think I went a little over the top. I bought 29 nail polishes. No, I’m not joking.

We started by popping into Boots where I immediately saw a huge stand full of Sinful Colors polishes. I don’t own any of those, so as Boots had a 3 for 2 offer on, I managed to nab these three for only £3.98! The colours I got were Tokyo Pearl, Exotic Green and Cinderella.

Sinful Colours

Next we stumbled across Beauty Bay which I knew was a place I could get LA Colors polishes for only 99p each! At one point I had 15 polishes in my basket, but I managed to cut it down to just 11.

These three colours are Palm Tree, Illusion and Fun In The Sun.

LA Colors

The next three colours are Sea Siren, Metallic Blue and Blue Lagoon.

LA Colors

These four polishes are Gold Nugget, Coral Reef, Shocker and Blossom.

LA Colors

This polish was slightly more expensive at £1.99 and is called Crowd Surfing.

Next I managed to find a Superdrug which is one of my usual go-to polish shops so I popped in to see if they had anything that my local one doesn’t, and it did! Tucked away on one shelf I found a few Invogue polishes! I’ve seen so many posts about these recently so I HAD to get some to try them. I bought two from the Matt Suede Effect Series – Emerald Dust and Sophisticated.

Invogue Emerald Dust & Sophisticated

The one shop I had been desperate to go to was the Models Own Bottleshop. It’s so cool to be able to get polishes there before they come out in the shops! I immediately decided that I need to have the new Bora Bora – anything gold a sparkly is a sure fire winner in my opinion!

Models Own Bora Bora

They also had an offer on in the Models Own Bottleshop – 6 polishes for £20! I have been waiting to get the Champagne collection and the Kaleidoscope collection for some time now and as I thought it was a little over the top to get both sets, I ended up going for the Champagne collection. I must say though, I was very impressed with the girls working in the Bottleshop – they were so happy to help and running all over the place to find things and suggest things to me!

The last shop we visited in Westfields shopping centre was Kiko. This place confused me as last time we went there I paid only £1.50 per nail polish, but this time this polish cost me nearly £5! I don’t get it. That’s quite a huge markup. That’s why I only bought one, instead of the six I bought last time. This polish is Kiko 423.

After we had finished shopping, I gave all my bags to my wonderful other half to take home (isn’t he amazing!) and I went off to Oxford Street for my friend’s hen do. As I was a bit early arriving, I popped into Primark and was met by a big stand of Angelica polishes priced at £2.50 each. Naturally, I bought the whole collection of Soft Satin Matt Effect polishes!

Angelica

Such a mad day – I really cannot wait to try all these polishes on over the next few weeks!

Have you bought any new polishes recently?

It’s my birthday!

It’s my birthday today! Woop!

I hope you’re all having a lovely day today – I’m at work so it’s not too exciting, but Jack and I are going out for dinner tonight :)

Today I have for you bunting nails. These have been quite popula recently and I fancied giving them a go – they are so springy!

Bunting nails

I started by painting my nails with two coats of Barry M Matt White – I seem to be using this polish a lot at the moment! I then painted triangles onto my nails in alternating colours of Topshop Easy Breezy, Rimmel London Tangy Tangerine and Models Own Lilac Dream with a tiny weeny paintbrush. Finally, I used the same paintbrush to outline the triangles using L.A. Colors Black Striper polish.

I’m chuffed to bits with these and love how well they suit the fact that it is my birthday.

Bunting nails
For this manicure I used:
  • OPI – Nail Envy
  • Barry M – Matt White
  • Models Own – Lilac Dream
  • Rimmel London – Tangy Tangerine
  • Topshop – Easy Breezy
  • L.A. Colors – Black Striper
  • Seche Vite – Quick Dry Topcoat

Lasers

I have seen this manicure done by so many people so many times and I love it. Getting the Models Own Ice Neon collection seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it out.

I love how the stripes look like lasers in a nightclub. How cool! I also tried out a gradient on one finger to mix it up a bit!

Laser nails

I started by paining all my nails with a base of Barry M Matt White. I then painted my index finger with Models Own Toxic Apple, my middle finger with Models Own Bubblegum and my little finger with Models Own Luis Lemon. I also used a make up sponge to make a gradient with all three colours on my ring finger. When it had dried a bit, I painted a quick drying topcoat over all my nails – this meant that the tape I was about to stick on wouldn’t pull off the nail varnish.

Next I cut off lots of pieces of tape and stuck them randomly over my nails making sure that they were stuck down well. I then used Nails Inc Black Taxi to paint over the polish and tape on my nails so the colours was blocked out completely. Before it dried, I carefully used tweezers to pull off all the pieces of tape. Finally, after it had dried well I used a final coat of topcoat.

Laser nails

If you have nail tape I would really recommend you try this out. If you don’t have tape – get some!!

For this manicure I used:
  • OPI – Nail Envy
  • Barry M – Matt White
  • Models Own – Toxic Apple
  • Models Own – Bubblegum
  • Models Own – Luis Lemon
  • Nails Inc – Black Taxi
  • Makeup sponge
  • Nail tape
  • Seche Vite – Quick Dry Topcoat
