I have seen this manicure done by so many people so many times and I love it. Getting the Models Own Ice Neon collection seemed like the perfect opportunity to try it out.

I love how the stripes look like lasers in a nightclub. How cool! I also tried out a gradient on one finger to mix it up a bit!

Laser nails

I started by paining all my nails with a base of Barry M Matt White. I then painted my index finger with Models Own Toxic Apple, my middle finger with Models Own Bubblegum and my little finger with Models Own Luis Lemon. I also used a make up sponge to make a gradient with all three colours on my ring finger. When it had dried a bit, I painted a quick drying topcoat over all my nails – this meant that the tape I was about to stick on wouldn’t pull off the nail varnish.

Next I cut off lots of pieces of tape and stuck them randomly over my nails making sure that they were stuck down well. I then used Nails Inc Black Taxi to paint over the polish and tape on my nails so the colours was blocked out completely. Before it dried, I carefully used tweezers to pull off all the pieces of tape. Finally, after it had dried well I used a final coat of topcoat.

My first time with tape!

So AGES ago I bought these rolls of nail art tape from eBay and I am only now getting round to having a go with them.

How cool does this look! I wore it out to dinner after doing the manicure and I felt all special and snazzy with my dolled-up blingy nails. My only annoyance was that I forgot to put a top coat on after the tape and gems so the tape started peeling and the gems fell off after a while :( Lesson learned for next time!

My first time with tape!

I started by painting my nails with Barry M Blueberry Ice Cream – two coats to make it completely opaque. I then painted a coat of Seche Vite to make it dry quicker so I could get sticking! Then for each nail, I cut off a piece of tape, stuck it on my nail and trimmed it down to the right size. After that, I used a toothpick to dab a bit of clear nail polish onto the place where I was going to stick a gem, then picked up a gem using the toothpick (clear polish remnants are sticky!) and placed it onto the nail….and then did that for all the gems!

It took a while, but it was totally worth it!

Have you ever had a go at using nail tape?

For this manicure I used:
  • OPI – Nail Envy
  • Barry M – Blueberry Ice Cream
  • Seche Vite – Quick Dry Topcoat
